Big-bada-boom

Get practising your oooohs and aaaahs, by the end of this weekend you'll have a crick in your neck and and you'll have worn out your vocabulary of appreciative noises as the 'Kölner Lichter' explodes over the city of Cologne. This annual fireworks display is an extravaganza of rocket propelled gun powder synchronised to music. This year the music has been chosen by chief pyrotechniker Georg Alef, and he's shown quite an eclectic taste: the 26 minutes and 55 seconds of aerial bombardment will bang along to the strains of Louis Armstrong's 'What a wonderful world', Robbie Wiliams' 'Let me entertain you', Edith Piaf's 'Hymne á l'amour' and my personal favourites, the Intro to '1984' (why only the intro?) and 'Jump' - both by Van Halen. It's going to be a banging and a rocking night! Veterans will know that the city is FULL for the Kölner Lichter and you either love it or hate it. For anyone new to the city it's a must see - the fireworks are superb, the atmosphere is fantastic and the music, well, this year the music is going to be interesting. You are guaranteed a night that will go with a bang.
