Find your way to inner peace

Jidô ®

Not long ago I received an invite to do a test training session in martial arts. To be quite honest, I just glanced over it and figured I'd check it out since my last self defense course needed a top up. When I arrived at the dojo I was greeted warmly by Michael Thomanek, the founder of a new technique called Jidô ®. I found out that it would have been very beneficial for me to have read through the information beforehand. Jidô ® is not a martial art technique and it is not even a form of sport, but an individual way of finding your own inner strength and presence. Jidô ® is also a way to find real concentration and inner calmness. The aspect that convinced me is that it is so different to all the other well known martial arts. In most martial art techniques one is forced to follow a certain pattern, which has to be done in a time frame that the master dictates. It is usually very strenuous and, between you and me, not much fun. And here is the big difference, although Michael and his assistants are very disciplined, they actually allowed the participants to chuckle when they felt like it. To sum it up in my own words: Jidô ® is fun self-improvement, expressed through the body, in a time frame that suits each individual. Jidô ® was invented by Michael Thomanek: at the age of ten he started to learn different martial art techniques. He became a master in Budo and passed degrees (or Dan) in Jiu-Jitsu and Combat Karate but he felt that he was not moving in the right direction or towards his ideal goal. He came up with the idea for Jidô ® in 1995 and has been continually developing it ever since. Jidô ® is not a martial art technique, it actually reduces the amount of technique involved and in doing so becomes a source for other styles. If you want to find your own way towards inner peace and balance, come to the Open Day on March 14th - you'll find a warm welcome waiting for you.
