Hanging about in Cologne

What's your favourite mode of transport in Cologne?  Tram? Train? Bus? Boat?  How about the cable car?  OK it's not much of a mode of transport, you can go across the river and back, that's it.  But what a view! Unrivalled views of the Cologne skyline, the river and the naked bathers in Claudius Therme (obviously not the main reason for taking the cable car, but nevertheless an interesting diversion). The cable car is over 50 years old and is the city's safest form of transport, having never had an accident in the entire course of its history.  Last year over 350,900 people used the cable car and that figure is set to increase again this year as the city's marketing team find ways of linking the cable car to events such as Zoo Night, Long Night of the Museums and Kölner Lichter.  There are also combi tickets available for the cable car and "Bimmel Bahn" under the title "Himmel und Ääd" (heaven and earth - also the name of a famous Cologne dish of mashed potato and apple).  A new combi ticket called "Köln erleben – zu Land, zu Wasser und aus der Luft“ (Experience Cologne - by land, water and from the air) adds boat tour tickets to the combination and lets you see the city from arguably its very best angles.
