I scream, you scream, we all scream for Ice-Cream!

This is going to be a bit controversial. Everyone in Cologne has a favourite ice cream parlour, and everyone insists that their's is the best. I've opened up this discussion in the past and it's always heated. I'll start by stating my preference: Il Gelato in Bayenthal. Nowhere have I eaten a creamier, dreamier ice cream. And the flavours! Chilli chocolate, black cherry with dark chocolate, Tiramasu, Mango, Rhubarb - and a number of rather unusual flavours like watercress. Il Gelato has its very own 'Ice Cream Professor'. Giacomo Ferigo was trained by ice cream masters in Naples - it doesn't get any better than this. Hence the queues out the door. The ice cream is also all 'bio' and made from the freshest ingredients, so it's not the cheapest at €1.20 per scoop. But it's worth every delicious, succulent mouthful I say. There must be something in the air in Bayenthal because down by the river outside the Sud Kai bar/restaurant, there's a little ice cream van which also sells some pretty tasty ice. When it comes to ice cream vans the quality varies widely. About the worst I've had is from the van that hits Volksgarten whenever I'm there with my kids. It's like a wet blob of watery ice with a sickly sweet bubble-gum flavour - and that descrption fits just about every flavour. So - what's your fave ice cream establishment? Could it be Eis Café Breda on Rudolfplatz (hands down Il Gelato is better)? Or Van der Put in Zollstock/Südstadt (not even close)? Let's have this one out. State your preference here and let's see which one comes out tops.

Come down to Bonn!
And have some Eislabor in the Altstadt! Best ice cream in Germany, guaranteed.
