My Daddy is going away - but that's OK!

daddy

Anyone with kids knows how hard it is to be away from the family for any length of time. If you're in a job where trips abroad are a regular occurance, life can be very hard for the family left behind. Which makes this book by British Army officer, Chris MacGregor interesting for soldiers, sailors, airmen, businessmen, truck drivers, doctors, actors and basically anyone who has to spend extended time way from loved ones. "My Daddy's Going Away" seeks to help kids understand and accept their Dad's absence by reducing their anxiety. The book helps parents and children talk through the stresses of paternal separation and find ways to make it easier for the whole family. Chris MacGregor has two children Ellie (3) and Ben (5), "Before I departed I recorded a story for them so that they could hear my voice whenever they wished, but they missed me very much... There were occasions when they became real handfuls; their behaviours changed for the worse and their questions about my absence grew more difficult to answer; especially in the early days when I would be coming and going, away for days or weeks, but always popping back with dirty laundry and longing to see my children. For them, this was more difficult to handle that when I finally deployed and was away for months. It occurred to me that if my wife and I found it difficult, so must other parents". The books is endorsed by HRH The Prince of Wales, and published by Giddy Mangoes Ltd (£5.99), visit www.mydaddysgoingaway.com for more information and stockists.

This could apply as well to

This could apply as well to mommies being away! My bro-in-law is a stay home Daddy.

Mummies go away too...!

You are absolutely right! The emotional cycle of deployment is valid for all family members. I am planning to write a sequal to the first book and shall call it 'My Mummy's Going Away...'. Until then, refer to the psychology and use all the top tips on the website (www.mydaddysgoingaway.com)and best wishes,
