London calling
Cologne to St. Pancras, in the middle of London, will cost as little as 100 Euros. The journey time is also pretty good – four and a half hours - but that depends on your stop over in Brussels. The Rhine Online team couldn’t didn’t believe it either so we tried it out ourselves. At 14.45 we were at Cologne Hauptbahnhof, in Brussels at 17.15, left at 18.00 and arrived in London at 20.00 (19.00 Cologne time). OK – that’s five hours, but only because of the wait in Brussels, on the way back it was quicker, we left London at 14.34 and arrived in Cologne at 20.15 (19.15 London time). If you consider that if you take a flight you have to first get to the airport, check-in one hour before your flight, hang around in any London airport for at least half an hour to get through customs and pick up your bags, then take at least an hour to get from any London airport into the centre of town – it probably takes around the same amount of time. By taking the train you can relax all the way, spend a lot less money, and arrive right in the middle of the city in the brand spanking new St. Pancras Station. We’re not big fans of Deutsche Bahn on the whole, their prices have in the past seemed extortionately high – but if this route is anything to go by it’s well worth checking out their prices before you book another one pf those so called „cheap“ flights.
