Shop till you drop - on Sunday!
Yes - the shops will be open again on Sunday 2nd December. Thanks to the efforts of Cologne City-Marketing the shops will be opening their doors from 1-6pm in the city centre. The pedestrian zone which runs from Hohe Strasse to the Domplatte was the first ever pedestrian shopping zone in Germany and with over 17,000 visitors a day, is Germany's busiest shopping street. If you want to make the most of this Christmas Shopping bonus day check out Galeria Kaufhof where you'll be able to find gifts for even the most fussy family member. Next door you'll find the Mayersche book shop which has a large selection of books in English, and then just around the corner check out the English Shop for Paxo Stuffing, Christmas Puds and crackers and a great selection of gifts. Keep your eyes pealed for more news on the suggested "OffenerSonntag" on the 30th December - the church, politicians and shops are still fighting over keeping the holy day holy or allowing bargain hunters out on the streets early. Watch this space for more info.
