Oh No Ono in Cologne

I have it on good authority that "Oh No Ono" is a band to watch. They're already big in their homeland of Denmark and are now breaking into Europe and the US. Their style is a pretty mixed bag of alternative pop, electro-clash, funk and new wave, and they've been compared to a host of other Danish bands (that I'm afraid I've never heard of) and The Raveonettes (who I have heard of). Their intricate and otherworldly music defies conventions and expectations (and sometimes gravity). The band capitalized on a wave of Scandinavian press, toured extensively, and received surprising amounts of radio and video airplay for a group so focused on experimentation. After receiving the “Breakthrough of the Year” award from the DR (the Danish equivalent of the BBC), the band jumped into the Scandinavian festival circuit, drawing the attention of, among others, NME, who said of the band: “they sound like Devo sticking their fingers in a power socket… at a helium balloon factory… on the moon.” Their debut album Eggs features ten densely textured, sour-sweet-sad opuses, and is apparently truly breathtaking to behold. Go see them at Gebäude 9 in Cologne, I've a feeling you might be hearing a lot more of this band throughout the year.
