Weekend escapes - beautiful Prague

Cologne-Bonn to Prague: one hour flying time, about an hour on an eastern block reminiscent bus and you're suddenly in one of the most beautiful city's in Europe. With its excellent public transport system you really don't need to spend much to get around, you can take a tram, bus or metro to just about every corner of the city. From the gothic cathedral, to the Golden Lanes, the Charles Bridge and the Astronomical clock – you'll struggle to see the many sights of Prague over a long weekend. The winding streets of the old town are full of marionette theatre's, souvenir shops, glass makers and restaurants. You "must" visit U Fleku - one of the oldest and most famous "pubs" in town - watch out for the "free" shots offered by the friendly staff - they may look complimentary - but they're not - and they taste vile! The dark frothy beer on the other hand may not be the Budwar you came to sample - but is extremely delicious and refreshing. Another gem of a place is Mlejnice It took us ages to find it as it's on a tiny little street that doesn't feature on many of the tourist maps - we enjoyed a delicious bread "bowl" filled with goulasch and a plate of traditional pasta dumplings. Our third "must see" bar was unfortunately so full we couldn't find a table (U Zlateho Tygra) - but I would thoroughly recommend it as it was full of locals and had a great atmosphere - like a German beer hall - full of people chatting, singing, eating and drinking. Our flight from Cologne Bonn only took an hour and only cost €130 return for two. A hotel including breakfast for just €60, cheap public transport and very reasonable meals gave us a fantastic break for a really reasonable price.
